Metro Elite's Stars
The Metro Elite team has placed among the top three teams at the National Championships for two out of the past three years. Here some of the outstanding lifters who represent the Metro Elite Weightlifting Club:
Danica Rue is one of the most outstanding female athletes in the history of US Women's weightlifting. A seven-time National, and eight-time Jr. National, Weightlifting champion, Danica, has been a medalist at the Jr. World Championships and has represented the US as a member of its Senior World Weightlifting team. She recently returned to the competitive stage after a three year hiatus to attend law school. After graduating and becoming a member of the bar, she returned to the weightlifting wars this fall with a win at the 2009 American Championships and followed that with a win at the 2010 National Championships .She made the 2011 World Team, which will compete in Paris.
Matt has been a Jr. National Champion and Jr. National recordholder. He has earned medals and several National Championships and has represented the US at the Jr. World Championships. He has been named the outstanding Male athelte in the Metropolitan NY area several times. He earned a bronze medal at the 2010 National Championships
Named the outstanding male lifter overall at last years National Schoolage championships, after breaking all of the national schoolage records in his bodyweight category, Peter also won the Jr. Nationals for the second year in a row and placed second at the American Open. He has been named the outstanding Male Junior lifter in the Metropolitan NY area for 2009 and won the 2010 American Open.
Frankie won three bronze medals at the 2009 and 2011 National Championships, placing third overall. He also place third at the 2009 American Open, after moving up a bodyweight class. He was named the outstanding Male lifter in the Metropolitan area for 2009 and won a silver medal in the C&J at the 2010 National Championships.
Ericka Dice has won medals at several recent National and American Championships. She was named the outstanding female athete in the Metropolitan are for several years, most recently in the 2008,the same year in which she earned an invitation to the Olympic Trials. Ericka retuned to the platform in 2010, placing 6th at the National Championships (after a hiatus during which she was finishing the requirements for her Master's degree in Acupuncture).
David placed 2nd at the 2009 National Championships, his highest placement to date. He has won numerous local titles, has been honored as the outstanding male athlete of the year in the Metropolitan NY.
Ed was a member of the Jr. World Championships team for the US and has been a medalist at several recent National Championships. He has been awarded the Metropolitan area's outstanding male athlete of the year on several occasions.
Peter Madow has been the Metropolitan lifter of the year, a Empire State Games champion and a National level competitor for several years. He is coached by his father, Bob Madow, one of the top weightlifters in the US during the 1960s.
Arielle, a relative newcomer to the sport of weightlifting, won three bronze medals at the 2009 Jr. National Championships and was named the Metropolitan NY area's outstanding female Jr. lifter for 2009. She placed 5th at this year's National Championships.
James began lifting in 2009, after a successful career as a HS wrestler. Soon after beginning his training, he qualified for the Jr. Nationals, and this year placed 8th in the 2011 Senior National Championships.
Bilal, a pre-med student, was able to qualify for the Senior Nationals after only a little more than one year of training, despite his rigorous academic schedule. He placed 13th.
Serge first qualified for the Jr. Nationals in 2009 where he placed 8th. He then qualified for the 2011 Senior Nationals. Unfortunately, an injury prior to the Nationals prevented his lifting there, but he is now preparing for the 2012 Nationals.
Jonathan is one of the club's youngest lifters. He competed in this years Schoolage National Championships and placed second.
Patrick, who is only 16, placed second at this year's Jr. Nationals and Schoolage. He also qualified to lift at the Senior Nationals, where the placed sixth.
Lou has become of veteran of six Senior National Championships. His highest placement in the those six outings was the 7th place he earned in 2006.
