Met Elite’s Women's Team Places Second at the 2010 National Championships - Men's Team Ties for Third

June 15, 2010 – Peoria, IL

Met Elite Women's Team

The Women of Metropolitan Elite's Weightlifting Team placed second at the USAW Nationals - the most prestigious weightlifting event in the US.  The championships were held in Peoria, IL this past weekend.

This placement was particularly meritorious because the Met Elite Women's team consisted of only four (in a competition that allows seven women's team members). Danica Rue led the team with her 7th National Championship victory - her first since coming out of retirement just about a year ago. Her team mate, Arielle Lippman, placed 5th in a very tough 58 kg. division with a 162 kg.total (her total would have placed her 3rd in the 63 kg. bodyweight category and second in the 69 kg category). Met Elite had two lifters in the 75 kg. bodyweight category - veteran Ericka Dice, who totaled 161 kg. to place 6th, and newcomer, Traci Jessop, who totaled 155 to place 8th.

Met Elite Men’s Team

The Men’s Team consisted of only 4 out of the maximum 8 men's lifters permitted under the rules. The team members included Matt Rue, who placed 3rd with a total of 353 kg. in the 105+ kg. category. Seventeen year old Peter Musa, the Jr. National Champion, placed 4th in the 77 kg. bodyweight category, with a total of 258 kg. Lou Mangiaracina placed 10th in the 69 kg. bodyweight category, with a total of 213 kg. Frank Murray had the misfortune of missing all of his snatches, so did not make a total, but he came back to win a silver medal in the C&J lift with a personal record 175 kg. The team tied for 3rd place on points, but was pushed into 4th place via a tiebreaker which looks at which of the tied teams has the highest placing lifter overall.
